To the right, you see our personal family photo of my little girl, jumping in to our community pool. That particular jump was around the 153rd of the day and she was beyond proud of herself for having mastered the skills needed to really swim confidently. In the years and months and weeks prior to these jumps, there was a ton of fear and anxiety, so this moment was epic for her. It’s always hard each year, to regain the skills and confidence after months with no swimming, but around this time each year, we, like many others are signing up for swimming lessons and getting our kids ready for another season of epic jumps in the pool.
At this time of year, swim lessons is one of the most popular conversation topics among parents of younger children. Everyone is talking about where they took lessons last year, where they’re taking lessons this year, what their good and bad past experiences have been and what they are seeking in lessons for their kids this year.
We know that children come with their own ideas on the subject of learning to swim too. Not only do we want to find convenient affordable instructors who will teach our kids to really swim, but some of us also have to take in to consideration the feelings of children who may not be so thrilled about getting in to the pool again this summer.
Some children may be fearful or tentative, while others just want to jump in…ready or not. Regardless of your child’s particular skill level and feelings towards swimming, there is sure to be a great place and a great instructor for them. Your task as their parent is just to find that place and person. With summer just weeks away, now’s the time, so here are our local options for swim lessons.

Bob Ruth Aquatics
About: At Bob Ruth Aquatics, we believe that teaching swimming effectively is a delicate art. We employ many different approaches to make the most of our time with your child, so that when you leave, swimming lessons have truly been a positive learning experience. Hopefully this website will give you some insight into our teaching approach, as well as details about policies and procedures. It is easy to be too harsh or too lax as a teacher, and yet there is a time to be firm and to be gentle. We try to ride the fine line between the two. It is a balancing act which we believe yields the best results. So we listen to your child very carefully – by what s/he says, does, and seems to feel – to determine just how far and how fast to proceed and in what way to proceed. While trying to be sure each child is comfortable, we will guide, cajole, and push him/her along to skill improvement just as quickly as seems appropriate – in your child’s individual case. Tallahassee Swim School
About: The Tallahassee Swim School is a member of the National Swim School Association and has been in existence since 1994 under the direction of Terry Maul and his wife Dr. Jodi Yambor. As professionals in the fields of education and aquatics for over 30 years, Terry and Jodi saw a need to improve the offering for swimming instruction in the Tallahassee area. With that in mind, they organized a swim school, which specializes in private and semi private lessons. This allows each student to maximize contact time with his or her instructor. In addition to this individualized approach, the Tallahassee Swim School is committed to instruction at the students pace. A “success oriented” and “fear free” environment is essential to an effective learn-to-swim experience and is the cornerstone of the philosophy of the Tallahassee Swim School.
