WFSU Education Kicks-Off Summer Break with Cookie Monster and Everyday Heroes
Something big, something blue, something fluffy is coming to WFSU! To kick-off summer break and its’ annual Summer Challenge program, WFSU is hosting a walkaround Cookie Monster as well as everyday heroes from all over Tallahassee at the station on Saturday, June 4th. The Sesame Street favorite will be in the studio in between cookie breaks for thirty-minute meet-and-greet sessions on the hour every hour between 9am and 1:30pm. During their visit to the station, Summer Challenge participants can register and pick up their materials, hang out with North Florida’s Everyday Heroes, including Florida Forest Service, Tallahassee Police Department, Leon County Hazardous Waste Center and Leon County EMS, and have fun with hands-on activities! WFSU also invites families to be Everyday Heroes by bringing a non-perishable food item for America’s Second Harvest of the Big Bend.
WFSU partners annually with PBS KIDS to provide North Florida families with the WFSU Summer Challenge. This self-paced list includes activities that are meant to combat the “summer slide” phenomenon that often plagues our students during their time away from school by keeping families engaged with learning both indoor and out. Each completed task is rewarded with points, and each participant who reaches fifty points total by the August deadline is given prizes. Visit wfsu.org/summerchallenge to register online or sign up at the Kick-Off Event!
