In every way, every day, we humans create poems. Visual, auditory, literary and musical…sometimes, merely the act of being alive is sufficient to be a truly ‘human poem.’

Marina Brown dissects this exhibition into two groupings. The first is Dance: whether occurring in the street, on a stage, across a bridge, in a barnyard, or a church—or simply within a lover’s heart—the feelings are the same. A pounding, a pulsing, the quickening of the rhythm of life that joins people from around the world, the young and old, in a never-ending dance—a visual poem. The second is Portraits: some formal, some evocative, one mysterious, two tender. For Brown, the exploration of the soul through the faces of people of every permutation, stripe and age is poetry on display; the unabashed act of self-presentation. A human poem of courage. Brown has also published poetry books that are available for sale in the Gadsden Arts Museum Shop.
