The Florida Department of Elder Affairs and the United Way of Florida cordially invite you to the 18th Annual Florida Senior Day, a celebration of Florida’s elders! Senior Day will be on Wednesday, January 24th from 10:00 am – 2:30 pm at the State Capital Building. Every year, this FREE event serves to honor Florida’s seniors, as well as provide exhibitors to inform them and the public of the types of programs and services available to Florida’s seniors. The day’s events also include speakers, performers, free health screenings, and free giveaways! Kick off this lively event with us across from the Capitol at City Hall at 10:00 am for a Town Hall meeting to discuss important topics facing Florida elders and to have your voice heard! During the noon program in the Capital Courtyard, state leaders will speak to the attendees, and a free lunch is served to all who attend. We hope to see you there!

This popular event offers an array of performances, activities, and history for the whole family!

Visitors can learn about Florida’s history from exhibitors like the State’s Archaeological Research Lab and Mission San Luis. Or, visitors can explore science with local exhibitors such as MoLab., Inc. As an added bonus, the Pilot Club will be providing complimentary bicycle helmets fitted to protect our young historians. Live performances and activities such as face painting, button making, and a variety of games will also be available.

From history and science to face painting and performances, there is something for everyone at Children’s Day! Parking and admission are free. Some activities require tickets that can be purchased at the event.

Members, friends, and the community are invited to attend the 2018 Annual Meeting of the Thomas County Historical Society on Sunday, January 28, 2018. Having just celebrated its 65th anniversary year, the Society is proud to announce the completion of its rebranding project and will debut the results of the process at the event. The agenda includes a short year in review, followed by a joint presentation, “Brand Strategy: Why It’s Essential for Non-Profits,” by Michele Arwood, Thomasville Center for the Arts, and Haile McCollum, FM Brand and Design, on their experiences with successful rebranding campaigns. This event will also be the official launch of the Historical Society’s new brand. The program will begin at 3pm at the Thomas County Historical Society located at 725 N. Dawson Street.
