Frenchtown Farmers Market
Apr 20 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

The Frenchtown farmers market is located 524 North MLK Blvd. In partnership with the Community Redevelopment Agency, the farmers market represents a first step in plans to develop a local food business incubator on the property.

The project, led by Frenchtown Neighborhood Improvement Association, is an effort to improve opportunity for people of color, women, veterans and students. The goal is to diversify the local economy, both by product and proprietor, in order to create more resilient, engaged, safe and thriving communities.

And what better place to start than Frenchtown.

Opening day will feature live music, guest speakers and host of local vendors with handmade and locally grown products. The Frenchtown market will open every Saturday, from 9am to 1pm throughout the year.

Vendor Information

Vendor inquiries from across the Big Bend region are also welcome. The Frenchtown farmers market is the only food retail opportunity in the area with purchase incentive programs that improve families’ ability to purchase fresh food, and also expand the sales potential for market vendors.

Vendor info sessions will be held Wednesday, February 17th @ 12:30pm and Saturday, February 20th at 3:00pm, at the market’s new location, 524 North MLK Blvd. in Tallahassee.

GARY SCZERBANIEWICZ: FOSSILIZED INTENT @ Gadsden Arts Center & Museum
Apr 20 @ 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
GARY SCZERBANIEWICZ: FOSSILIZED INTENT @ Gadsden Arts Center & Museum

Gary Sczerbaniewicz creates small sculptural works that showcase hybrid architecture as the subject matter. His scale-model replicas of brick building fragments and brick masonry façade catalogue a range of vignettes that have been culled from his experience living in a rust-belt city for more than a decade. In this grouping of works, disconnected doors, blocked windows, shadows of staircases, collapsed walls, eroded rooflines, and bloated surfaces shrug off their originally designed roles and stand as petrified strata which seem to gently mock the beholder.
Exhibition admission: $10 for nonmember adults (includes 6 exhibitions); free for Gadsden Arts Center & Museum members, free for children ages 17 and under. Exhibition admission-free days: March 2 / April 6 / May 4
Open Tuesdays – Saturdays 10am-5pm

About the book:
In the decades long fight for a cleaner environment, we’ve been fighting a losing battle. The sad truth is, our laws are designed to accommodate pollution rather than prevent it. People feel powerless when it comes to preserving the quality of their water, air, public parks, and special natural spaces.

The solution, argues Delaware Riverkeeper Maya K. van Rossum in a pathbreaking book, is to bypass the laws and turn to the ultimate authority: our state and federal constitutions. In 2013, van Rossum and her team won a watershed legal victory that not only protected Pennsylvania communities from ruthless frackers, but affirmed the constitutional right of people in the state to a clean and healthy environment.

Following this victory, van Rossum inaugurated the Green Amendment movement, dedicated to empowering every American community to mobilize for constitutional change. In The Green Amendment, van Rossum lays out an inspiring new agenda for environmental advocacy, one that will finally empower people.

We all have the right to pure water, clean air, and a healthy environment. It’s time to claim that right—for our own sake and that of future generations.

The Green Amendment has been honored as a 2018 Living Now Evergreen Awards GOLD Winner in the Nature Conservation category, received an Honorable Mention in the 2017 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Awards, and includes a powerful foreword authored by Mark Ruffalo, which supports the visionary constitutional path advocated for in the book.
