Yes, we need your help to fight childhood hunger and to raise awareness on nutrition and wellness! Please join and help the ladies of the Delta Kappa Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. collect healthy cereal and nutritional snacks between Sept. 22nd to Oct. 16th. Donations will be made to Second Harvest, a local food bank in Tallahassee, FL.

Are you new to running (or getting back into it) and needing some motivation to start or stick with a running routine? Want to complete a 5k (3.1 mile) event this year?

In this 8 week program, we’ll offer the tools, training, and support to help you gradually build your endurance and achieve your goal!

Beginners have different needs and objectives when working toward the 5k goal, so we’ll have 3 groups available each Wednesday. You choose which group suits your needs week to week:

Run-Walk-Run
Starting with 1-mile of running and walking, progress toward continuously running 3 miles by the 8th week. Training Week 1 starts with a 1 minute run:1 minute walk – or 1:1 – ratio. Each week, the number of minutes running increases as the goal distance steps up (i.e. 1:1 for 1 mile, 2:1 for 1.25 mile, etc).
Run-Walk Only
Starting with 1-mile of running and walking, participants complete the goal distance each week using a set 1 minute run:1 minute walk ratio. This won’t change from week to week (i.e. Week 1 is 1:1 for 1 mile, Week 2 is 1:1 for 1.25 mile, etc).
Running
Starting with a 1-mile run in Week 1, participants progress toward running 3 miles continuously with little to no walking by the 8th week. They will increase running distance by ¼-mile each week, adding roughly 2 to 3 minutes to their running endurance per week.

Like to line dance? Want to learn how to clog? Join the Red Hills Cloggers any Monday night and learn how. Clogging is a great way to improve coordination and cardiovascular health. We dance to mostly top 40 and current country songs.

If you’re looking for a way to stay in shape and make new friends, join us any Mondays from 6:00-7:00.

Miracle Sports Baseball is a program put on by the Florida Disabled Outdoors Association (FDOA), where people with and without disabilities are encouraged to come out to the Miracle Field at Messer Park and enjoy the sport together. Adaptive equipment provided, such as a tee to bat and a baseball that emits a noise for people with visual impairments! With no winners or losers, the event is all about building confidence through a family-like and encouraging atmosphere.

The event is weekly from September 6 – November 15, children play from 6:00-7:00 pm and adults from 7:00-8:00 pm.

Join us for another great contra dance in the second floor ballroom of the Tallahassee Senior Center. No experience necessary and you do not need to bring a partner. A caller teaches each dance before the music begins and a live string band plays the tunes. Wear comfortable clothes and flat shoes. This is a great way to connect with community members of all ages!

Join us for our 5th annual 5K Race and 1-Mile Fun Run on October 27th, 2018 at Tom Brown Park. All proceeds will go to the Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend.

Registration starts at 7:30 am, the 1-mile Fun Run at 8:30 am, and the 5k Race begins at 9:00 am. Halloween costumes are encouraged!

Sustainable Tallahassee’s eighth annual Trash Dash 5K Run will again be held at the Apalachee Regional Park. Come run on this beautiful cross-country track on a lovely fall morning! This is Sustainable Tallahassee’s annual fund raiser, and supports our many programs and initiatives.
