GULF WINDS TRACK CLUB 2018 Beginning Running Group @ FSU - Mike Long Track, part of the McIntosh Track & Field facility
Oct 17 @ 6:15 pm
GULF WINDS TRACK CLUB 2018 Beginning Running Group @ FSU - Mike Long Track, part of the McIntosh Track & Field facility | Tallahassee | Florida | United States

Are you new to running (or getting back into it) and needing some motivation to start or stick with a running routine? Want to complete a 5k (3.1 mile) event this year?

In this 8 week program, we’ll offer the tools, training, and support to help you gradually build your endurance and achieve your goal!

Beginners have different needs and objectives when working toward the 5k goal, so we’ll have 3 groups available each Wednesday. You choose which group suits your needs week to week:

Run-Walk-Run
Starting with 1-mile of running and walking, progress toward continuously running 3 miles by the 8th week. Training Week 1 starts with a 1 minute run:1 minute walk – or 1:1 – ratio. Each week, the number of minutes running increases as the goal distance steps up (i.e. 1:1 for 1 mile, 2:1 for 1.25 mile, etc).
Run-Walk Only
Starting with 1-mile of running and walking, participants complete the goal distance each week using a set 1 minute run:1 minute walk ratio. This won’t change from week to week (i.e. Week 1 is 1:1 for 1 mile, Week 2 is 1:1 for 1.25 mile, etc).
Running
Starting with a 1-mile run in Week 1, participants progress toward running 3 miles continuously with little to no walking by the 8th week. They will increase running distance by ¼-mile each week, adding roughly 2 to 3 minutes to their running endurance per week.

FREE to Gulf Winds Track Club members and FREE to the community!
Visit www.gulfwinds.org to join the club or renew membership, and register for the Beginning Running Group by completing the “GWTC Training Groups Waiver” on the Training page

Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra Presents: An Electric Evening @ Ruby DIamond Auditorium
Oct 19 @ 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm
Tallahassee Symphony Orchestra Presents: An Electric Evening @ Ruby DIamond Auditorium | Tallahassee | Florida | United States

Our season opener will be both literally and figuratively electric! 41-year-old Mason Bates (DJ, Grammy-nominee, composer-in-residence at the Kennedy Center, and 2018 Composer of the Year) is known for his expansion of the orchestra to include electronics, and Mothership is no exception. Compared to Bates, Mozart was a baby (a mere 35 years old) when he wrote his elegant and graceful clarinet concerto just two months before his untimely death. Joining the TSO for this performance is the magnetic Anthony McGill, principal clarinetist of the New York Philharmonic. Rounding out the evening is Tchaikovsky’s high-wattage Fifth Symphony, one of the most beloved Romantic works.

Featuring clarinetist, Anthony McGill

Frenchtown Farmers Market
Oct 20 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

The Frenchtown farmers market will reopen on March 5th at 524 North MLK Blvd. In partnership with the Community Redevelopment Agency, the farmers market represents a first step in plans to develop a local food business incubator on the property.

The project, led by Frenchtown Neighborhood Improvement Association, is an effort to improve opportunity for people of color, women, veterans and students. The goal is to diversify the local economy, both by product and proprietor, in order to create more resilient, engaged, safe and thriving communities.

And what better place to start than Frenchtown.

Opening day will feature live music, guest speakers and host of local vendors with handmade and locally grown products. The Frenchtown market will open every Saturday, from 9am to 1pm throughout the year.

Vendor Information

Vendor inquiries from across the Big Bend region are also welcome. The Frenchtown farmers market is the only food retail opportunity in the area with purchase incentive programs that improve families’ ability to purchase fresh food, and also expand the sales potential for market vendors.

Vendor info sessions will be held Wednesday, February 17th @ 12:30pm and Saturday, February 20th at 3:00pm, at the market’s new location, 524 North MLK Blvd. in Tallahassee.
