Frenchtown Farmers Market
Apr 21 @ 9:00 am – 1:00 pm

The Frenchtown farmers market will reopen on March 5th at 524 North MLK Blvd. In partnership with the Community Redevelopment Agency, the farmers market represents a first step in plans to develop a local food business incubator on the property.

The project, led by Frenchtown Neighborhood Improvement Association, is an effort to improve opportunity for people of color, women, veterans and students. The goal is to diversify the local economy, both by product and proprietor, in order to create more resilient, engaged, safe and thriving communities.

And what better place to start than Frenchtown.

Opening day will feature live music, guest speakers and host of local vendors with handmade and locally grown products. The Frenchtown market will open every Saturday, from 9am to 1pm throughout the year.

Vendor Information

Vendor inquiries from across the Big Bend region are also welcome. The Frenchtown farmers market is the only food retail opportunity in the area with purchase incentive programs that improve families’ ability to purchase fresh food, and also expand the sales potential for market vendors.

Vendor info sessions will be held Wednesday, February 17th @ 12:30pm and Saturday, February 20th at 3:00pm, at the market’s new location, 524 North MLK Blvd. in Tallahassee.

Weaving Our Stories (FSU) @ Strozier Library-107-K Study Room | | |

The Florida Council Against Sexual Violence (FCASV) invites you to Weaving Our Stories. Weaving Our Stories is a clothing exhibit that will travel to different Tallahassee sites during Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) April of 2018. The MeToo Movement has created national discussion and allowed people of various backgrounds to come together and share the ways that they too have been impacted by sexual violence. Our display was inspired by The University of Arkansas’ What Were You Wearing? survivor art installation. Our exhibit’s aim is to further unify the experiences of survivors to build momentum for change.
Our exhibit is titled Weaving Our Stories, to symbolize the strength that comes from sharing our stories, creating community, instilling hope, and promoting healing across our entire state. This powerful display features the outfits, or similar outfits to those, worn by survivors during their assaults. These outfits represent various individuals and cities throughout our state, via our certified sexual assault centers. To learn more about sexual violence and what you can do on an individual level, please come out to one of our events and visit us online.

45th Annual Stephen C. Smith Memorial Regatta @ Shell Point Beach Park | Crawfordville | Florida | United States

The 45th Annual Stephen C. Smith Memorial Regatta takes place April 27-29, 2018, at Shell Point Beach located on the Gulf of Mexico in southern Wakulla County. Stephen C. Smith was a local sailor who died at the very early age of 29 from a rare form of leukemia. All proceeds from this event will help continue the fight against cancer and provide services to those stricken with cancer in the Big Bend region of Florida.

The Regatta has drawn as many as 200 registered participants and hundreds more spectators from all over the southeast. The event includes: races for yachts rated under the PHRF handicapping system, catamarans such as Hobie Cats, smaller day sailors including Sunfish, and windsurfers, the most numerous and arguably the most colorful participants in the Regatta.

The windsurfing fleet will be competing for points in their national standings. Catamarans and one design day sailors, and small and large (22 feet and over) monohulls will race over their own courses. Races are held both Saturday and Sunday, with other events for sponsors, spectators, and participants on Saturday night.

The public is invited to view the races on Saturday and Sunday, the epic Parrothead Parade, now in golf carts, on Sunday morning, and to participate in the auction of thousands of dollars’ worth of donated items on Sunday afternoon beginning after the trophy presentations (about 2:00 pm).

Everyone can have a great time and pick up some great deals while making a contribution to help us all fight cancer.
