Celebrating the Fourth of July in Tallahassee

Celebrating the Fourth of July in Tallahassee

Most local July 4th events have been canceled, such as Celebrate America and Southwood’s Celebration of the Red, White & Blue. There is a rain date for the Southwood fireworks set for Saturday the 6th starting right after 9pm. If you have info about any other local events being rescheduled, please comment below to share! Hope everyone is safe and finding indoor fun instead. There were a few indoor options in our post such as Capital Lanes, looking at the wall, Movies 8, feeling sorry for yourself, Fun Station…although maybe staying in is the best plan to be safe. Sorry friends!

One thing is for sure, and that is, that our town sure knows how to celebrate and come together as a community for holidays.  In these days before Fourth of July, we’ll all start seeing local businesses share about their various Red, White & Blue specials, deals, products and parties.  The Team @ Tally Connection wants to help make it easy for you to celebrate locally this Independence Day.  Enjoy this post now and then again, for updates throughout the next week, as we share what we know about Celebrating Fourth of July in Tallahassee.

What to Do

The City of Tallahassee has planned a Fourth of July extravaganza again this year for their annual Celebrate America, Independence Day event.  Tobacco Rd Band & Swingin Harpoon will be on stage and many, many, many local food and activity vendors will be out for the evening of fun and fireworks!  Learn all about this event when you read our post, Celebrate America, Tallahassee’s Annual Independence Day Celebration. Look for a goodie bag for the kiddos from your friends @ Tally Connection at the FairyDust Faces booth!

Run a race that is a 31 year old Tallahassee tradition, the 31st Annual Kiwanis Firecracker 5K & 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk.  Check out the event flyer for details here.  Later that afternoon, head to Tom Brown Park for the Capital City Kiwanis Club sponsored Beer Garden, serving starting at 3pm.

Southwood’s Annual Celebration of the Red, White & Blue includes an evening of spectacular fireworks and more fun, such as live music and food/beverage/glow merchandise for purchase, all starting at 7:30pm, at Central Park Lake, with the fireworks just after 9pm.  Earlier that morning, the celebration also includes festivities starting at 10:30am to include a community parade and then music, food trucks, giveaways, face painting, bounce houses, water fun, games and performers at the playground area. Look for a goodie bag for the kiddos from your friends @ Tally Connection at the FairyDust Faces booth at the morning celebration.

Enjoy Cosmic Bowling all day until 8pm at Capital Lanes.  4th of July specials include: (1)$9.99 per person for two games of bowling and shoe rental, and (2)$39.99 per lane including one lane for up to six people for two hours of unlimited bowling and shoe rental.  Capital Lanes is located at 820 Capital Circle NE and their phone number is 850.422.2696.

7th annual 4th of July Celebration @ Killearn Estates starts at 5:30pm at Shannon Lakes Park, 4459 W. Shannon Lakes Dr.  Festivities begin at 5:30 with the fireworks as the finale. A bus will transport to and from Celebration Baptist Church!

Find Florida’s Bounty at the morning and evening events in Southwood to pick up a picnic basket full of yummy local treats for you to enjoy while you gaze at the fireworks from your spot on the lawn.  For example, the large basket with two different kinds of Sweet Grass Dairy cheese, Bagelhead Bagel chips, 12 oz jar of Tupelo Honey, 6 oz jar of local Muscadine Jam, Fresh Pecans, and home grown herbs sounds very nice indeed!

What to Eat

MAYhem Sweets & Treats, by Andi May will debut new Cake Pop flavors on the LAST Friday of each month by The OTHER SIDE Vintage in Railroad Square Art Park from Noon till 2:00pm!  This month, on June 28th, one of the featured flavors available will be Independence Cake Pop.  Can’t make it?  Contact Andi and try to sweet talk her in to saving some for you to pick up.

The classic juicy treat, watermelon, is a must have.  Stop by New Leaf to pick up your sweet slices.  Some tips for picking a delicious watermelon: Listen for a crisp sound when slapping the melon, and look for a light tan spot somewhere on the melon, indicating where it sat on the ground for 90 days undisturbed, getting itself ready for you to enjoy.  Melons should have a bright look and be firm to the touch.  A refreshing melon salad recipe to try at your July 4th parties: Summer Melon Salad with Mint & Prosciutto.

The Cake Shop always pleases with cakes, cupcakes, decorated cookies and more.

Let Piggy’s BBQ put together some All American grub for you and your friends at your parties.  Enjoy the food?  Mark your calendar for their weekly Kids Eat Free days and enjoy the food and the deal, again and again.
