The Social Skills Group at Florida Autism Center teaches individuals with social skills deficits how to interact with their peers so they can make, and maintain, friendships. While most individuals may have a diagnosis of Autism, a diagnosis is not necessary for children to attend one of our social groups. At FAC, we see children for who they are and not their diagnosis. There are two social skills groups. One is for children between ages 4-7 and the other for children between ages 9-11. Other age groups may be created based on interest. The social skills groups are held over a 12 week period, twice per week, for one hour during after school hours. There are also 3 community events, one per month, to give children the opportunity to generalize learned skills. Additionally, there is a parent training conducted by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) once per month to show parents how to be a part of the learning process.
To join in on these groups and events, or for more information, please contact the Florida Autism Center at 850-391-6060.
