5 Trails to Walk/Hike in Tallahassee

With the spring season approaching, there is no better time to start spending some time outdoors. Tallahassee is home to some of the most amazing trails and walking paths available in North Florida. During such unconventional times, a walk or hike with friends is a great way to catch up while maintaining proper COVID-19 safety protocols. Below are the top five trails to check out on your next hike!
1. Tallahassee-St. Marks Historical Railroad State Trail
Stretching 16 miles long, this scenic route features a plethora of wildlife and beautiful views. It is located directly off of Woodville Hwy and SR 363. This trail is home to the Annual Tallahassee Marathon.
2. Capital Cascades Trail
Capital Cascades Trail is a 24-acre park along the St. Augustine Branch stream in Tallahassee. It is recognized nationally as a historic place and is well known to the citizens of Tallahassee. Additionally it is home to a lovely dock overlooking the water. Its central location makes for a great place to walk, hike, or have a picnic with friends.
3. Lafayette Heritage Trail
This seven mile hike is located in east Tallahassee and connected to Tom Brown Park. It is both pet-friendly and near a beautiful lake, making it the perfect place if you are looking for a day out with man’s best friend.
4. Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park
Maclay Gardens is the place to go if you want to enjoy nature on your walk. They are known for their breath-taking birdwatching which can be done from the edge of their lake. They are home to unique floral architecture, a secret garden and camellias and azaleas that can all be discovered while walking through this local state park.
5. Miccosukee Greenway Trail
This is a challenging hike featuring different terrains, making it ideal for more advanced hikers who are looking to test their limits. Challenges include hills and changes in route texture to increase difficulty and create a tougher workout. This is a great opportunity for those still staying true to their New Year’s resolution and looking for a unique workout.
