Eat Local: Tallahassee
Eating local has its benefits, including real, good food made in-house, premier customer service and boosting small businesses in your own city! Tallahassee is stacked with a plethora of restaurants to curb the hunger of every eater, but with breakfast being the most important meal of the day, we thought we would share a few of the best local breakfast, brunch and lunch stops.
We are starting off with The Lunchbox, which can be found in central Tallahassee. Jenny’s Lunchbox has been housed in Central Tallahassee for over 20 years. It was founded as a breakfast spot for everyone and has continued to serve the Tallahassee area with classic and delicious foods.
One review says: “A local gem! I love this place. The food is reasonably priced, fresh, and soooo good. They serve breakfast all day and even have all you can eat pancakes on Fridays. They stay busy for a reason.”
If you’re on the hunt for a restaurant that serves breakfast and lunch all day, The Lunchbox is your spot. With good prices and a wide variety of foods, the lunchbox is a great stop for all.
Canopy Road Café
Next up in central Tallahassee is Canopy Road Café, which has served Tallahassee breakfast and lunch for over a decade. They specialize in classic Americana foods with some added pizazz to set them apart.
One review says: “Everyone can find something great to eat at this cozy little breakfast spot. The servers are friendly and the hostess and food runner all work to get hungry guests in and fed. We loved the Lucky Goat coffee they served and the made on the spot chocolate milk is great when you’re dehydrated. The omelets and skillets are delicious.”
Canopy Road Café has had so much success in Tallahassee with their three locations that they established cafés in Tampa and Jacksonville, as well! They have some delicious food and a great family-friendly environment.
Grove Market Café
Travelling north on Thomasville Road, take a detour and stop at Grove Market Café. They are a full-service breakfast and lunch restaurant that features a chef-created menu of fresh takes on classic comfort foods. It was created by two Tallahassee locals who desired to serve fresh and healthy foods that lack nothing when it comes to flavor. They offer something for every eater, including gluten-free and vegetarian items.
One review says: “After becoming a vegetarian I needed a new restaurant to enjoy a healthy conscious meal. Grove Market is the best! I had the steamed veggie plate with a veggie burger patty on the side and a fruit cup. Yum!”
With indoor and outdoor seating options, Grove Market supplies comfort and food for all.
Rounding out our breakfast trip in Northeast Tally is Ma’s Diner. They are a family-style, traditional diner serving breakfast and lunch. The two owners opened the diner in late 2019 and have continued to serve the area well since.
One review says: “Delicious breakfast served with friendly, warm, and fast service! Prices are reasonable. Decor inside is a great blend of retro and modern. Definitely worth a try.”
If you happen to stop in on a fun holiday, such as Star Wars Day on May 4, you just might listen to an on-theme playlist while you eat! Ma’s Diner is a simple, homey restaurant that fills you with good food to get your day going.
So, if you’re getting hungry just reading this, be sure to check out these restaurants. Eat a little or a lot and support local businesses in the process!
