Debunking Diets @ Goodwood Museum & Gardens
Feb 4 @ 12:00 pm

Diet trends are hard to keep up with—from supplements like MCT oil, collagen, detox celery and beet juices to diets such as Paleo, Keto, plant-based, and the Mediterranean diet. It can be overwhelming and difficult to find a diet that meets your health and wellness goals.

Join Afaf Qasem, Director of Quality of Life Services at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare and Emilie Rice, graduate student and dietetic intern from the Florida State
University, as they debunk diet trends. Learn about how these diets and others affect your health and how to find a quality diet/trend that fits your individual needs.

This program will take place on February 4th from 12 PM to 1 PM in Jubilee Cottage at Goodwood Museum & Gardens. For more information please contact Shavonne McAndrew at 850-877-4202 ext.232 or email smcandrew@goodwoodmuseum.org

Tallahassee AIDS Walk @ Railroad Square Art District
Mar 5 @ 6:30 pm

DESCRIPTION
This year’s event will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at Railroad Square. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this historic event, Tallahassee AIDS Walk will be getting a GLOW-UP. For this glow-in-the-dark themed event, participants are encouraged to wear glow-in-the-dark body paint, neon clothing, and lots of glow sticks- the more creative the better!

Participants can pre-order shirts until until February 19th. After this date, shirts will no longer be available on this site, but extra shirts will be for sale the day of the event for $10.

Individual community members, school and university groups, companies, and faith groups can register to walk as individuals or as part of a team. Walkers are encouraged to also become fundraisers and help us reach our goal of $10,000. After a memorial walk around Railroad Square, we will gather at the Railroad Square Craft House to listen to speakers and music.

This event will be a celebration of all of those who have fought so hard to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS. All proceeds help Big Bend Cares, Neighborhood Medical Center, and Bond Community Health to provide direct-care services for their clients and HIV prevention and education for the entire Big Bend region.

Why We Walk

Did you know that in the Big Bend area, 1 out of every 172 adults is living with HIV/AIDS? In the African American community, it’s 1 out of every 72 adults. And, according to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, more than 1.1 million people in the US are living with HIV – with 1 in 7 of them not even aware that they have the disease!

Yes, the epidemic is far from over.

This is why clients, community members, staff and advocates of Big Bend Cares, Neighborhood Medical Center, and Bond Community Health Center are walking together on Thursday, March 5th. We walk for the more than 100,000 people living with HIV in Florida. We walk to remember those who no longer can. We walk to remind you that you’re not alone. We walk for a nation. We walk to educate. We walk for change.

The Tallahassee AIDS Walk works to raise awareness and funds to support HIV programs in the community. All proceeds will benefit our 3 local HIV/AIDS service organizations. We honor and remember friends and family, celebrate those who are living full lives with the virus, and recognize the work that still needs to be done.

Please walk with us!
